A Culture of Innovation
For 50 years our volunteer board members have contributed back to their community. They have shared their talents, skills, and expertise to keep our agency operating at its optimum.
The Board Express
“Being a volunteer board member gives me the opportunity to advocate and speak for those that may not have a voice for themselves.”
“My role on this board has provided me the perfect opportunity to play an active role in my community by doing meaningful work that is highly regarded.”
“One may not realize the great needs of an individual living with a disability, as a parent, I know just how difficult it is to find good people who you can trust in, who will value and provide the much-needed care to your adult child so they may live a full life.”
“I believe time can offer ways to improve, broaden our views, and opportunities to expand.”
“I am proud of the work that I have been a part of. This Board has achieved a great deal over the years, from purchasing accommodations for services, to building new facilities, we have come a long way. And I have met a lot of great people who have enriched my life, for which I’m truly grateful.”
“Every child is unique, every person has their own challenges, every individual has worth, and all are a benefit to our community because of their differences. When we don’t put our own biases on to others, each will be more accepting of others’ indifferences.”
“Having a daughter with a disability is the initial reason I became interested in WCA as a parent, but prior to that I always had an interest. My first introduction to the disability community was 50 years ago when my youth church group was invited to visit WCA’s first facility ‘West Central Farm Activity Centre’ located on the outskirts of town. I had a great time touring their farm and playing with the young group of people living there, it was a special opportunity for me to experience at a young age.”
