Obituaries: Edith (Henderson) McCalmon

1936 ~ 2022 (age 85)

The family of Edith McCalmon is saddened to announce her passing on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at the age of 85 years.

Beloved wife of the late Hugh; loving mother of Debra (Steven), Jennifer (Blair) and the late Darlene; cherished grandmother of Carrrie (Randy), Wendy (Rick), Scott, Cody, and Shawna; and great-grandmother of eleven.

There will be a Private Family Service held for Edith. The family would like you to join them at the Masonic Lodge on September 10, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. for Come & Go Tea to celebrate Edith’s life.

Edith was born in Paddockwood, SK, on November 9, 1936. Her parents Joseph and Edith Henderson immigrated to Canada settling in the Paddockwood area. She married Hugh McCalmon, on July 26th, 1956 at St. Brigid’s Anglican Church in Paddockwood, SK.

While farming in Paddockwood, Hugh and Edith started their family. In June 1957 Edith gave birth to Debra, the first of three daughters. Shortly after Debra’s birth they moved to Burstall. Edith took care of Debra, while Hugh worked for the RM. Darlene came along in September 1958. From Burstall the family moved to Beechy. In Beechy Edith was a stay at home mom busy raising the girls, while also helping out with 4H. Many years later Edith gave birth to Jennifer in May 1975.

In 1979 they moved to Ft. St. John, BC. After the move Edith began working outside the home in the service industry and then moved to a job in home care where she worked until they moved back to Saskatchewan in August 1991.

After relocating to Kindersley she worked at the Sunset Lodge and thoroughly enjoyed it. When Sunset closed she went to work in the Laundry department at the Hospital/Manor until she retired.
Edith moved into Dawnview Court in February 1998 after Hugh passed away in December 1997. She enjoyed gardening and spent a lot of time in the spring and summer nurturing her plants. Other pastimes included playing cards, visiting family and friends, going for coffee, walking, and listening to music.
Edith moved to the Heritage Manor in February 2021. She enjoyed socializing with fellow residents and staff. She took part in as many activities as she could, bingo being one of her favorites. She had many happy times there. Edith passed away August 23, 2022 surrounded by family.

She is survived by her daughters Debra (Steven) Bartsch, Jennifer (Blair) Ferner; grandchildren Carrie (Randy) Besplug, Wendy (Rick) Hawes, Scott Ferner, Cody Ferner, Shawna Hoover and many great grandchildren.

Predeceased by her husband Hugh McCalmon; daughter Darlene McCalmon; parents Joseph and Edith (Loughren); sister Martha Smith; brother Joe (Gayle) Henderson; brother Tom Henderson, and sister Mary Henderson who passed away in infancy.
