SaskTel Brings 5G to Kindersley
SaskTel has officially launched its 5G network in Kindersley and Melfort, signaling a significant advancement in connectivity for residents and businesses. This cutting-edge network offers lightning-fast data speeds, empowering users with hyper-fast data transfer capabilities.
“Wireless technologies and the connectivity they deliver are critical to Saskatchewan’s continued growth,” said Don Morgan, Minister Responsible for SaskTel. “Our government is pleased with SaskTel’s work to create a better future for residents across the province with the continued expansion of their world-class 5G and fibre networks.”
SaskTel’s 5G network currently boasts data speeds of up to 1.2 Gigabits per second (Gbps), with the potential for even faster speeds as the network matures. The forthcoming benefits of 5G include an extensive network capacity and ultra-low latency, enabling the adoption of emerging wireless technologies that will serve as the foundation for next-generation innovations.
“We are thrilled to bring the next-generation of wireless technology to our customers in Kindersley and Melfort,” said Chad Olson, SaskTel Chief Technology Officer. “With both our 5G and fibre optic broadband networks available in these communities, residents have access to the same communications tools and technologies as those living in larger urban centres in Saskatchewan and across Canada.”
SaskTel’s ongoing expansion of the 5G and fiber networks stems from their substantial investment plans for 2023/24, aiming to inject over $1.6 billion of capital across Saskatchewan within the next five years. These investments are poised to accelerate Saskatchewan’s transformation into a smart province, ensuring its position as one of the most well-connected regions in the country.
To connect to SaskTel’s 5G network, customers must be within a 5G coverage area, possess a 5G compatible device certified for use on the SaskTel network, and subscribe to a wireless plan that supports 5G technology.
