Preparing for Christmas

As December has begun, we, just like many, have been preparing for Christmas! All the Christmas trees are up at the houses and the Activity Centre, shopping lists and wish lists are being made and we are hoping for an early visit from Santa!

Each house and the day program are planning their Christmas parties, individuals are planning their favorite Christmas foods and the excitement is mounting, for some.

While many of the individuals and staff are excited for the holidays, it is important to remember that this season is a struggle for many. It is important to be aware of those around you who are not in the holiday spirit. Many people have had losses occur near Christmas, or the holiday season creates a sense of longing for those who are no longer here. It is important to not exclude those who are struggling in this season but to invite them to join activities, events, and celebrations as they feel able. Allow space for people to just be present and not necessarily fully engaged or joyful at these events, and accept that sometimes all the holiday hubbub is too much for them to even be present.

We hope that everyone finds something to bring a smile to their face this holiday season!
