“Anyone Want a Free House? I Have One, It’s Gotta Go”

Have you seen the posts for a free house?

Daniel Poissant, who lives on a farm west of Regina, made a post on Reddit nine days ago with hopes of finding someone who will take up his offer.

Here is the original post on Reddit Regina:

“It’s on a farm a few miles west of Regina, and it can’t stay where it is. So it’s “free” but depending on who the lucky taker knows, and what resources they have, it may not end up being crazy-expensive to move. It’s way out of any expertise I have, but I know depending on the structure and the distance is how building movers figure out the price. This thing can be sliced right off the foundation it’s on and carted away nice and neat. This and some work with a saws-all and you could have a garage with a bathroom and 2nd floor storage for maybe 10 grand?

A bit about the building: The original piece of it was a two-room farm house with no plumbing. No idea when this was built, but if someone knowledgeable looked at it and told me it’s 100 years old I wouldn’t be surprised. This was moved a couple miles south and added on to significantly, becoming a 2 storey, 4 bedroom, 1 bathroom. (This was done no later than the 1940’s, since dad (born in ’57) and his brothers – 2 of whom are older than he is were all brought up in this house.) Another addition was added in the mid 80’s – a single room with a fireplace. This ell doesn’t sit over the main basement foundation, and is shifting differently than the rest of the house. If the structure is to be moved, I’d recommend detaching this part. The rest of the house is actually surprisingly square given it’s age.

If no one want to take the house whole, de-construction and salvage is also fine by me. Cut it up and build a garage out of the parts, or sell the lumber to someone who makes things out of reclaimed wood? I’ve got some 80 year old grain bins we can talk about, too, if that’s your thing. Put this thing on a slab and with pretty minimal modification you’ve got a helluva workshop. Or small barn. Or storage for a creepy doll collection. Above ground sex dungeon. Ground level tree house. Private cigar bar and podcast studio. The possibilities aren’t infinite, but there’s probably still lots more.

My only terms are that the house has to go, and whoever takes it has to clean up any mess they make.

And there’s probably no money in the walls. But if there is, honour-system splitsies?

Happy to answer questions, and there’s no hard deadline here, other than that I’m not getting younger, so if I have to tear this thing down myself I want to know sooner than later.

Please share this with anyone you know who might have any interest.”
