Obituaries: Margaret Tennant Armstrong

1937 ~ 2021 (age 83)

The family of Margaret Armstrong are saddened to announce her passing on August 2, 2021 at the Kerrobert Integrated Health Centre, after a long illness. We thank Dr. Wenzel and all of the Home Care and Health Centre staff for their kindness and care.

Armstrong, Margaret Tennant (Sanderson) born October 27, 1937 in Estevan, Sask., and she moved to Kerrobert with her family in 1949. There she attended school, becoming the first member of her family to graduate from Grade 12 and was in the first graduating class in the brand new James Charteris Composite School. She met and married James Wilson Armstrong (the boy next door) on September 4, 1957. Margaret and Jim have three children Sharon Lorraine born in 1959, James Gregory born in 1961 and Lawrence Arthur born in 1963.

Margaret was very active in the community of Kerrobert. Her working career included Sample’s store, the Sears Order Depot and the Royal Bank. She also enjoyed volunteering and spent many years working with the United Church as a C.G.I.T. leader, Secretary Treasurer and a member of the choir. Margaret was a charter member of the Kerrobert Kinette Club, and her & husband Jim spent many hours working to fundraise for projects within the town. Catering, stage shows, kids entertainment, casino nights and craft & bake sales – they did it all, and made life-long friends while they were doing it. Margaret and Jim travelled to Saskatoon and participated in Telemiracle 2. This was a project dear to her heart, and she never missed a show, taking great pride in what Saskatchewan achieved together.

Among Margaret’s many creative talents were sewing, crafting, knitting and crocheting. She always had several projects on the go. She loved to garden, and every fall the house was full of wonderful smells of preserves, jams and relishes that she made from the garden produce. In later years, she enjoyed quilting and making cards. Most of all, she loved her flowers, and many evenings were spent in the back yard enjoying nature and the peace & quiet.

Margaret & Jim also loved to fish & travel. Every year they enjoyed vacations to all the provinces in Canada, the Yukon and Alaska, with friends and family. In their retirement, many summers were spent at Green Lake enjoying their friends on “Geritol Row” and the beauty of nature.

Margaret was predeceased by her mother Jessie (1990), her father Art (1998), her sister Mary, her brother Bob (1983) and her brother George (1988). She is survived by her husband Jim of Kerrobert, daughter Sharon and sons Jim and Lawrence (Connie) and her grandchildren Evan and Taylor. She is also survived by her brothers Barrie (Dawn) and Bill, both of Thunder Bay, Ontario, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are comforted by their wonderful memories of vacations, family celebrations and wonderful dinner parties hosted by this talented lady.
