Dayna Meier Is Bringing Acupuncture to Kindersley and Area
For those looking to treat their aliments in a holistic, traditional way, you are in good hands because Dayna Meier is bringing acupuncture to Kindersley and area.
“I became interested in learning about holistic and traditional modalities after experiencing sensitivities and discomforts that led me to seek ‘natural’ approaches and become more informed on my health, the products I use and food I eat,” shared Dayna.
While attending college in Calgary, she took a course in Acupressure taught by an Acupuncturist. It was during this course she realized she wanted to pursue Acupuncture and TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) as a career. “I enrolled at the Calgary College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture in 2007 and graduated from the four-year program in 2011 as a Registered Acupuncturist and Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine.”
In addition to this, she also completed additional training programs in reproductive health, including fertility, hormonal health, and pregnancy. “Many of my clients seek support with fertility, all stages of pregnancy, and postpartum.”
In 2020, she completed a Balance System of Acupuncture certification program through the Tan Academy of Balance with Dr. Sonia Tan, and is currently taking a course in Neuro-Meridian Acupuncture—phew, talk about a driven career woman!
After graduating, Dayna began practicing in Yorkton for a year and a half before returning to her hometown of Saskatoon, where she has practiced for the last ten years.
“Last year I began seeing clients in Kindersley a few days per month and now have moved my practice here full time as I have officially moved to a farm northeast of town.”
For those of you who may not be familiar with Acupuncture and TCM, it is a field that encompasses many styles, approaches, and treatment methods. For thousands of years, it developed and evolved in East Asia, and works by regulating Qi in the body. Treatment typically involves the insertion of very fine needles into acupuncture points on the Meridian or pathways on which Qi flows. These meridians are very closely associated with nerve and blood vessel pathways as well as fascia.
Commonly known for treating muscle and joint pain, acupuncture has a wide scope of practice also treating injuries such as chronic pain, arthritis, and fibromyalgia—it also works well for headaches and migraines. For those with digestive issues, asthma and allergies, bladder issues, hormonal imbalance and reproductive issues, including menstrual problems and symptoms of menopause, you will find relief. In addition to all of this, acupuncture has a nervous system regulating effect, many finding it beneficial for stress, anxiety, depression, addictions, energy levels and sleep.
Though many people are nervous about receiving treatment involving needles, most are surprised at how relaxing it is, some even fall asleep during their treatments. Obtaining a sensation from the treatment is beneficial, but it shouldn’t be intolerable, it typically feels like a mild pressure or dull ache, or a slight pinch or tingly sensation. “I encourage clients to let me know how they are feeling and will adjust the treatment to their level of sensitivity,” she shared.
When you first visit Dayna, you can expect to stay up to 90 minutes, as this includes a consultation and treatment. “Before proceeding with a treatment, we go client’s whole health history, lifestyle, and main reason for visit. I often give recommendations which may involve nutrition or lifestyle suggestions, herbs or supplements.” Follow-up visits are typically one hour, during which you will have time to recap before beginning the treatment. Though it is helpful to determine a focus for the treatment, clients are welcome to share multiple issues each session.
