Iron Horse Klippers vs Weyburn Red Wings Games 1 & 2 Recap!

Game One

This was an extremely FAST skating game! The visiting Weyburn Red Wings seemed to have a fire lit under their blades as they came in to take on our Jr Klippers. This was game 1 of a 2 game weekend. Fortunately, we were able to keep up with them and even though we went into the 3rd period tied at 1, we didn’t quite get the job done although we did get a point.

Down 2 to 1 in the latter half of the 3rd, Coach Trapper made the call to pull the goalie to put on an extra attacker. It’s a move that doesn’t pay off often but it did tonight as Logan Linklater scored with 38 seconds left on the clock to force overtime! Unfortunately Weyburn scored just 39 seconds into the OT and skated away with the win.

Only 7 penalties in total were called; 4 against Weyburn and 3 for the Jrs. Official attendance was listed at 458 but it didn’t seem that much. Some Weyburn family and friends made the trek to cheer on their team. The Sunday game is an early start at 4:00. This the 2nd last home game for the season and the Jrs will be hanging around after the game to skate with any fans who come out.

Next week on Friday, March 10th will be the final home game against the Battleford Northstars with a return game in Battleford on Saturday.

Game Two

Well, it was an entertaining game # 2 between our Jrs and the visiting Weyburn Red Wings but the score wasn’t in our favour. The Klippers were shut out 2 to 0 on home ice. Wings goalie Dazza Mitchell played well and we had our chances but he stood tall and turned away all 28 shots he faced. Klippers goalie Logan Falk also played well and stopped 29 of 31 shots he faced.

The Red Wings are an aggressive team for sure and they looked hungry tonight. It was the 2nd last home game of the season and although the Klippers played their hearts out, it just wasn’t their night. 695 fans turned up to cheer but it wasn’t enough. The Jrs were hanging around after the game to skate with some of their fans and get in some bonding time.

The last Kindersley Klippers home game is Friday, March 9th at the hangar in the WCEC when the Battleford Northstars will provide the opposition. The boys in blue and green will be having their Awards Banquet on Thursday, March 8th at the Elks Hall.
