How’s Your Financial Health?
Do you feel in control of your financial life? Are you happy with your credit score? Behind in debt repayments? Spending more than you’re earning? You are not alone. Today’s charged world is causing many of us no end of concern.
How can we do better? Well, there are some steps we can take and these can apply to all facets of your life;
1) You cannot change your past. What’s happened has happened and you cannot make any more time. All you can do is learn from your behaviors. Take a financial course, and find an accommodating banker to help you align your financial goals with your desires. Above all, do what you think is best for you. Start a side hustle? Contribute to an RRSP or tax-free savings account. Your financial future begins and ends with you!
2) Other’s opinions do not define your reality. Your financial health is no one else’s so you have no need to explain yourself to friends or family. If you want to change careers, do it if that is what makes you happy. Starting an education fund for your children? Saving for a house? Don’t allow others to change your mind. Yes, there will be naysayers but pay them no mind. Surround yourself with like-minded people.
3) Positive thoughts cultivate positive actions. Meaning, that thinking and speaking negatively about yourself is never productive or necessary. Sure we have all made mistakes but replaying the over in your mind isn’t a great way to get ahead. It demotivates you, so believe in yourself and your financial plan.
4) Overthinking a problem will not solve the problem. Constructive thinking is a good thing. It gets your brain in gear and focusing on your situation. But sometimes the best solutions are the simplest and so so you don’t need to rack your brain for a complicated answer. Maybe you just need to look at your spending habits and make a few adjustments. Maybe putting more money into savings would make a difference. Find out what would mean the most to you to accomplish.
5) Here’s the big one. You cannot make everyone happy. No kidding! If you want to make everyone happy then go sell ice cream. Otherwise, relax and do your own thing. Sure some people may not agree with you. Some people will try to talk you out of your decision. Your job is to sift through all the outside chatter and remain true to your course of action. Will it always work? Maybe not but at least you did it
your way and without outside interference. Keep striving to reach your goal!
We will look more in-depth into these subjects in further articles. I hope this made a difference in your thinking!
