Kindersley Hosted Successful 2023 Men’s and Women’s Curling Club Provincial Championships
From March 23rd to 26th, the curling rink at the West Central Events Centre was packed with those wanting to take in some great curling, which began Thursday morning with twenty men’s and seven women’s teams from across the province competing in the 2023 Men’s and Women’s Curling Club Provincial Championships.
Team Kyle Wiebe, and Team Ashley Ritchie proudly represented the Kindersley Curling Club, while Team St. John from Rosetown, and Team Fell from Unity rounded out the area’s men’s teams.
While they were hard-fought battles, Team Wiebe lost all three of their games played in the women’s round, and while Team Fell started with two wins, three straight conceded games ended things.
Team St. John (who had a 4-2 record) took to the ice Sunday morning for their draw against Team Shutra, all in the bid for a spot in the finals. After a nail-biting game, Team St. John’s tournament ended in the 9th against Team Shutra who went on to compete against Team Criton. Ultimately, it was Team Criton who will go on to represent Saskatchewan at the 2023 Everest Curling Club Championships in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Women’s Team Ritchie finished with a 1-5 record, while team McMillan won the tournament over Team Robson.
The Kindersley Curling Club finished things by taking to social media to thank everyone who made the Provincial Championships a success. “Thank you to all our volunteers who helped out with the CurlSask Provincial Curling Club Championships this week! Whether you were greeting curlers, serving drinks and snacks, or helping with the score reports your help was greatly appreciated! These events wouldn’t be the success they are without your dedication! A special shout out to our ice technicians who worked long hours over the past 4 days to ensure the curlers had excellent ice conditions!”
