Remembering Esther Beryl English, nee Warrington
Esther Beryl English, nee Warrington, was born July 9,1921 on a farm south of Loverna, Saskatchewan. Her pioneer parents were blessed with a family of 12 and family always came first for them.
Beryl, as she was usually known, enjoyed many sports:softball, curling, golf, bowling, and later in life, shuffleboard. An avid card player, there was not a game she would not try.
She loved school and learning, receiving Education and Arts degrees from the University of Saskatchewan and taught school at Summit Park in Major, Diova at Grandora, Antelope Park in Loverna, West Cliff Composite in Marengo and Kindersley Composite in Kindersley.
Beryl was a leader in the Girl Guide movement for 17 years and a proud member of the Canadian Legion Women’s Auxiliary, wearing her uniform every year for Remembrance Day services.
Her marriage to Howard, whom she described as “an awfully nice guy and good match”, produced two sons, Bernie and Boyd. Six grandchildren resulted from their marriages: Vanessa, Azure, Deanna, Shane, Barney and Heidi and six great-grandchildren: Daniel, Logan, Natalie,Cleah, Brayden and Sara.
Howard and Beryl enjoyed many trips: Montreal, Osaka, Spokane, New Orleans and Brisbane. World Expos were always a favorite as were the many trips to visit family in Bermuda.
After decades of enjoyable living in their home in Kindersley, Beryl decided to move to The Bentley in Saskatoon some years after Howard’s death. This proved to be her happy home for over 10 years until, at age 99 and requiring more care, she moved to the Trinity. She died peacefully May 11, 2023 in Kindersley. A memorial is planned for August 2023.
