​Westberry Elementary School Welcomes New Principal

Katilyn Gibbons, the current Vice-Principal of Westberry Elementary School, will become the new Principal of the school starting in the 2023-24 school year.

“We are very happy that Katilyn will be able to continue working for the students of Westberry,” said Sun West Director of Education Vicki Moore, “in her new role as Principal, we are looking forward to her applying her experience as well as her enthusiasm for news ideas.”

Mrs. Gibbons originally hails from Waterford, Ontario and she received a Bachelor of Arts Honours in Contemporary Studies from Wilfrid Laurier University and a Bachelor of Education from Nipissing University. She received both degrees in 2007 and both universities are in Brantford, Ontario. Mrs. Gibbons majored in English and also received additional qualifications on her Education degree in primary education and special education.

After finishing her undergraduate degrees, Mrs. Gibbons worked as substitute teacher, nature interpreter and tutor in Ontario before moving to Bristol, United Kingdom in 2010. There she worked as a substitute and Special Education Early Years Teacher. In 2012, she moved to Kindersley and became the Student Support Teacher at Elizabeth Middle School. When the Kindersley schools reconfigured, Mrs. Gibbons moved over to Westberry as Student Support Teacher. In 2019, she became the Vice-Principal of Westberry Elementary School.

Mrs. Gibbons will complete her Master of Education from the University of Saskatchewan in June this year. Her area of study in this degree is Educational Administration.

“I’m so grateful for the opportunity to continue working with Westberry’s school community to create a safe and caring learning environment that supports our early learners.” said Mrs. Gibbons.
