New Mural Decorates The Crafted Hand
Anyone walking for driving past The Crafted Hand in Kindersley will notice a colorful new addition to the side of the building thanks to Jade Prior!
Jade, an artist currently based in Saskatoon, originally hails from Kindersley. After graduating high school, she moved to Medicine Hat to earn her bachelor’s degree in arts. From a young age, Jade had a passion for drawing animals, and this love for art only grew as she matured.
“I am so grateful Jen came to me for this mural! It’s so cool to do something like this in my hometown. This mural took about seven days to complete with my Mom and Jen’s help,” she shared.
“We are excited to have people use these images for fun pictures with friends, be creative and have fun with it!” Jen Ginther, owner of The Crafted Hand explained.
To begin, Jade mapped out the mural using a paint marker. She then tackled the moth using spray paint, adding finer details with acrylic. The fox was predominantly spray-painted, with brushwork used for the intricate details. The hands in the mural were created using both acrylic paint and spray paint for shadows and the pink tiger lily. “I think we used about seven cans of black wall paint, and let’s say about 10-20 cans of spray paint!” explained Jade. “Again I’d just love to say I am so glad and thankful I could paint this for The Crafted Hand and add a little extra colour in Kindersley!”
Over the years, Jade has painted numerous portraits of pets, families, and landscapes. Her current projects include a painting of a muscle car and another portrait. While she also has an interest in taxidermy, she hasn’t explored it extensively yet.
