Record-Breaking Heat Wave Sweeps Through Province
Heat warnings ended across most of Saskatchewan on Saturday following a record-breaking day on Friday. Numerous temperature records fell, including a 99-year-old record in Moose Jaw.
According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), Moose Jaw reached a high of 39.6°C, surpassing the previous record of 35°C for August 2, set in 1925.
Regina also set a new record, with temperatures climbing to 38.5°C, beating the old record of 35.6°C for August 2, set in 1947.
Other records were broken in Weyburn (36.5°C), Rockglen (38.5°C), Coronach (39.7°C), and Assiniboia (39.1°C). Assiniboia and Coronach were recognized as the hottest spots in Canada at one point on Friday afternoon.
The average daytime highs for Regina and Moose Jaw this time of year are around 26°C and 27°C, respectively, according to ECCC.
Saskatoon reached 30.2°C on Friday, which was far off the record of 37.8°C set in 1922.
