Motherwell Beach Grand Opening Was “Fun in the Sun!”

Today was simply the perfect weather day to be at the beach. And coincidentally, that’s where I was today.

To celebrate the grand opening of “The Beach” in Kindersley at the east end of the Mother Well Dam.

Free BBQ sponsored by Aecom, cupcakes donated by TKC, freezies donated by Save On and water donated by Water Pure and Simple. Who could ask for anything more??

Many people turned out in droves to take in the proceedings and have a look at what has been done.  The changerooms and washrooms are perfect and with the sod taking hold, it was like walking around on a carpet!  The volleyball court looked amazing and the aerators in the water were doing their job of keeping the algae at bay.

It was nice to see so many people come out and look around and actually take a dip in the water.

Mayor Perkins was busy grilling burgers along with Deputy Mayor Randy Ervine.  Councilor Dean Galbraith was busy helping the huge line up of people get through as quickly as possible and even cracking a few jokes with people that he knew.  It seemed like the entire town office was out to help and it was great to see.

Mayor Perkins gave a speech after lunch and congratulated everyone who had a hand in making this beach a reality.  It was an idea first born in 2012 but was only able to be put to fruition last year.

Trevor Woiden, an engineer from Aecom, gave a little speech about the success of the project and some of the complexities they had to overcome. He was completely satisfied with everything and everyone who helped out.

As well, Cindy Tymoruski from Rivers West gave a little speech and presented a plaque to Mayor Perkins and the Town.

Last was the ribbon cutting to officially open the beach and then it was time to socialize with old friends and get reacquainted with old friends.

A very successful grand opening on a very awesome weather day.

Well done to everyone who not only worked on making this a success but to all the people who had a hand in making this project a reality.  It is something that will be used for a long time!
