Let’s Look at the Klippers’ First Two Games
Can you say a whoo hoo!?
I knew you could. Cause that’s how Klippers fans feel after we took the first 2 games against our division rivals, the Battleford Northstars.
I mean, to win IN Battleford, the home rink of the Northstars and then to beat them AGAIN in OUR building for the Goose Festival game?
This hasn’t happened in many a year. And the stands were full thanks to InterPipeline sponsoring a free admission night. Why did they do this? Because they have locked up the naming rights to the hockey arena for the next 10 years! Now known as the InterPipeline rink at the West Central Event Centre. They are a very generous company and we are so glad they are here.
The rink was also very loud! Partly due to the hometown heroes winning the opening game in Battleford and also that noise makers were given prior to the game. Of course Battleford was hoping to even the series but it never happened.
The Jr’s were up 4 to 0 at one point but held on to win 5 to 3 with Alex Mack scoring the first 2 goals of the game.
Goaltender Brett O’Halloran was awesome is between the pipes as he stopped 39 of 42 shots that came his way.
I spoke with Brock Evans who is still on the injury list due to a nagging knee issue and hopes to be back on the ice soon. Cody Jaman will continue to be on the sideline another 3 to 5 weeks as he recovers from an ankle injury suffered in the final exhibition home game against these same Battleford Northstars. The other goalie, John McPherson is still out likely until May due to his injury. Oh when it rains, it pours eh?
Coach Clayton Jardine and assistant coach Tyler Traptow have these young men in a program that they all believe in and it shows. They never get rattled or down. They just keep on following the plan.
The next home game is October 4th when the Humboldt Broncos come to town. Puck drop is at 7:30.
