Minimum Wage Increases Announced in Four Provinces Today
As of today, the minimum wage is increasing in four provinces.
In Ontario, the hourly rate will rise by 65 cents to $17.20, a change linked to inflation.
Saskatchewan is raising its minimum wage by one dollar to $15, which will still be the lowest in Canada, alongside Alberta.
In Manitoba, the minimum wage will increase by 50 cents to $15.80, following a formula established by provincial law that is tied to the inflation rate from the previous calendar year.
Prince Edward Island is also seeing a boost, with the minimum wage going up by 60 cents to $16, following a 40-cent increase earlier this year.
British Columbia boasts the highest minimum wage among the provinces at $17.40, while Nunavut leads the country with a rate of $19 an hour.
The federal minimum wage, which affects approximately 30,000 employees in the federally regulated private sector, is set at $17.30 an hour.
