Sun West Receives RBC Foundation Grant to Continue Mental Wellness Programming
Sun West School Division will be receiving a $100,000 grant for the 2024-25 school year from the Royal Bank Canada (RBC)Foundation to continue the mental wellness programming that the foundation has been supporting in Sun West for the last few years. This generous support will enable the division to offer ten pilot schools the opportunity to participate in ten mental wellness skill development workshops for students over 15 during this school year. These workshops will be held in five Indigenous Northern, remote, and isolated communities across the province, as well as five communities within the Sun West School Division.
Each school will host a full-day, in-person workshop to provide students with proactive tools and strategies to enhance their financial literacy, nutrition, relationships, mental health, and overall wellness. In collaboration with the Saskatchewan Health Authority, the program seeks to equip students with essential life skills as they transition to post-secondary education or the workforce.
The initiative addresses the specific needs of the communities by offering tailored workshops that reduce barriers such as stigma and accessibility. By fostering a supportive environment, the program helps students build resilience and develop healthier lifestyle habits. The success of the previous year, with over 2000 students and adult allies benefiting from the program, underscores the positive impact of these workshops. The Sun West School Division looks forward to continuing this valuable partnership and supporting the well-being of its students.
