Klippers vs Yorkton Game 2
Well that didn’t turn out as planned. The visiting Yorkton Terriers turned the tables on the home town heroes and won the 2nd game by a score of 5 to 4 but between the opening face-off and the end of the game, a little craziness took place. Once again Yorkton opened the scoring but the Klips tied it up. The 2nd period saw the Terriers dominate and even had 2 short-handed goals!!! However, the boys in green and blue found a way to score 2 goals themselves to be behind only 4 to 3. The 3rd period was a gong show, starting with the Klippers scoring a goal and evening up the game early into the stanza. Unfortunately Yorkton took the lead for good with under 2 minutes to play.
Kindersley ended up with 21 penalties to 23 for the Terriers. You could see the game tempo change as both teams showed how much they wanted to win. Little scrums after the whistle, tripping calls, holding the stick, fighting majors and game misconducts were handed out. The last 2 minutes of the game seemed to take forever to play as the Klippers pressed hard to tie the score but of course, when your down and playing a game that was this emotionally charged, things happen. However, having a split is better than losing 2, especially if you’re the home team. Cody “Noodles” Jaman returned from his ankle injury to start the game in net but was chased out after the 4th Yorkton goal. Maybe he was a little nervous to be back playing and not game sharp yet? Whatever the case, hockey is a team game and everyone has to take responsibility for their job.
Kindersley still sits atop the Nutrien Division with 18 points and are currently 4th overall in the SJHL. They are still far and away a more improved team than the previous year. Coach Clayton Jardine is a master at getting the guys to make adjustments when needed and unfortunately, not everything will go their way. Welcome to hockey life. This crew assembled for the 2024-25 season are prepared to do what it takes to win and they keep demonstrating it game after game. Even the scrums serve a purpose; to let the other team know that you’re not going to back down to them and to stand up for your team mates. That coming into your building is going to be a hard place to play.
The next home games are on Friday, November 1st and Saturday, November 2nd when the Weyburn Red Wings pay the InterPipeline Arena a visit. Weyburn is 1 point ahead of us in the standings so this will be a pivotal 2 game series. Puck drop both nights is at 7:30. Come on down and cheer on the Klippers!
