Klippers vs Weyburn

This was a matchup of 2 very even teams. Kindersley Klippers having 18 points in the standings and the Weyburn Red Wings having 19. It got off to a great start when the Klips scored in the first 2 minutes and then also in the last 2 minutes of the first period with Weyburn potting one in between. Things got a little ugly in the 2nd period as Weyburn scored 3 more times. Cody “Noodles” Jaman, starting in goal for his 2nd straight game, could not be faulted for all the goals against him. On 2 goals he was screened in front and on another goal a Red Wing player was left alone beside the net.

Even though the Klippers lost the game by a score of 5 to 4 and outshot their opponents by a margin of 36 to 31, they still had many good scoring chances. Weyburn goaltender Angelo Zol, played well and kept his team in it until the very end when the Klippers were pressing hard for the tying goal and the net was empty for the extra attacker. Aside from the score, it was a game many fans anticipated, end to end rushes, crisp hard passes and body checking to throw other players off their game. 6 Kindersley penalties to 5 against Weyburn rounded out the night as 597 fans took in the contest. Game 2 is Saturday night in Kindersley at the WCEC’s InterPipeline Arena. Puck drop is again at 7:30 pm.
