New Leadership, Same Dedication: Kyle Strutt Takes the Helm at Kee Sheet Metal Plumbing & Heating

This local staple is now under new ownership of Kyle and Amber Strutt. Kyle Strutt, a familiar face in the industry, steps in to carry forward the company’s long-standing dedication to excellence.
We recently had the chance to sit down with Kyle to hear about his journey, his vision for the business, and the lessons he’s learned along the way.
A Local Start, Big Dreams
Kyle’s roots are close to home, having grown up on a farm north of Brock before moving to Kindersley in 2009 with his wife, Amber. Soon after, Kyle began working with LUK Plumbing before joining Kee Sheet Metal, where he primarily handled service and residential projects with a bit of commercial work. “I loved getting the chance to fix people’s plumbing problems and talk to customers,” Kyle shares. “I felt like I was making a difference in someone’s day.”
During his seven years at Kee, Kyle earned his Journeyman Plumbing and General Gas Fitter licenses. However, when an opportunity arose with Whitecap Resources as a Battery Operator, he seized the chance to work a schedule that allowed time to nurture his own plumbing business on the side. “I always hoped I could do this full time one day,” he recalls.
In 2023, Kyle’s side business, Performance Plumbing and Heating, officially took off full-time, with his nephew Vaughn joining as an apprentice. Just a month before purchasing Kee Sheet Metal, Ty, another family member, came on board to help as the demand grew. ‘We started getting busier and busier as word got out,’ he says.
A New Chapter at Kee Sheet Metal
When Kee Sheet Metal first went up for sale eight years ago, Kyle was interested, but the timing wasn’t right. This time, when the opportunity came, he and Amber didn’t hesitate. ‘Bill and Gwen have done an incredible job upholding Kee’s reputation for quality and customer service,’ Kyle shares. ‘We’re honored to continue that legacy.’
One of the biggest draws for Kyle was the company’s experienced team. “Several staff members have been with Kee for over 13 years, and I personally worked alongside four of the current nine employees for almost seven years,” he shares. “That level of experience and trust is invaluable.”
Plans for the Future
Kyle is committed to maintaining Kee Sheet Metal’s core values while introducing some fresh ideas. “Our priority is to keep providing the same great service with the same dedicated staff,” he says. “We’ll also be integrating our two new team members, Vaughn and Ty, into the business.”
One of Kyle’s initial goals is to enhance Kee’s online presence by launching Facebook and Instagram pages to better connect with customers and showcase their work. He’s also planning some renovations to the showroom, set for spring, to keep the customer experience modern and inviting.
Advice for Aspiring Business Owners
For those considering starting or buying a business, Kyle offers some honest advice: “Be ready to work hard. Almost every evening is spent working on it.” He emphasizes patience, especially for anyone taking over an established company. “It’s not a quick process, and it’ll test your commitment and fortitude, but in the end, it will all be worth it.”
