Obituaries: Marlene Audrey Szabados
1936-2024
Marlene Audrey Szabados (Cunningham), age 88, of Sherwood Park, Alberta, passed away peacefully in the hospital, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s; with loved ones at her side.
Marlene was born June 24, 1936 in Zealandia, Saskatchewan. She was the only child of Bruce and Della Cunningham.
Marlene met Thomas Chin in Kindersley, SK, where she was attending McKenzie School. They married in 1954 and had four children, Ronald, Dianna, Donald and Kelly. Marlene and Tom divorced in 1968. Marlene went on to marry James McCullough in 1977 and the family of four children increased to a family of six children with the addition of Christine and Dean McCullough. They moved to the McCullough farm in Flaxcombe, Sask. After her second husband James, passed away, Marlene moved to Saskatoon; then on to Alberta to be closer to her parents. She met and married Bill Szabados in 2004 in Edmonton, Alberta. After Bill passed, Marlene, settled in Sherwood Park and was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2015.
Marlene cared deeply for her family and made a point of traveling across the prairies to visit them regularly. She was a very devoted daughter, mother and employee to all she worked for. Marlene was predeceased by her parents Bruce and Della Cunningham, and husbands Thomas Chin, James McCullough and Bill Szabados.
Marlene is survived by her children, Ron Chin (Mei-Lan) of Sherwood Park, AB; Dianna Nelson (Donavon) of Regina, SK; Don Chin (Pam) of Prince George, BC; Kelly Henderson (Larry) of Cold Lake, AB; Christine Ritchie (Doug) of Flaxcombe, SK.; and Dean McCullough; as well as 21 grandchildren and 24+ great-grandchildren.
At her wishes, Marlene has been cremated. There will be a private graveside service at a later date.
