Obituaries: Evelyn Vera (Burns) Seime

1920 ~ 2024 (age 104)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, Evelyn Vera Seime. Evelyn passed away peacefully at the Kerrobert Health Care Centre on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at the remarkable age of 104.
Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, Clara and Percy Burns; her husband, Berger Seime; her five sisters and three brothers; and her daughter, Carol, son Gary, and son-in-law Dale.
Evelyn will be forever cherished by her children, Gloria and Howard (Valerie), daughter-in-law Sandy, and 8 grandchildren (and spouses), 16 great-grandchildren (and spouses), and 5 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Born on September 15, 1920, on a farm north of Kelfield, Evelyn was the fifth of nine children. She had a deep love for farm life and attended Ruby School near the family farm. Starting work at the age of 15, Evelyn eventually found her way working for her future husband’s family, where she met and later married Berger Seime in 1933. They briefly lived in LacVerte before settling in the Dodsland area, where they raised their four children.
As a farm wife, Evelyn was always active and dedicated, including being a figure skating and hockey mom who would rise early to get her children to practices. She was deeply involved in her community, serving as an active member of the Fireside Circle, a 4-H leader, and later participating in the Seniors Group in Kerrobert. Evelyn even drove fellow seniors to bowling in Kindersley and built a step for her van to make it easier for the older members to get in.
Evelyn was also known for her love of games and healthy competitive nature, particularly cribbage, where she could always be counted on for a challenge—she was famous for her skill at “Dodsland rules,” rarely losing a game.
Evelyn will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family and the farm, as well as her kindness, generosity, and involvement in the community. For her 100th birthday, her family put together words that tried to capture her essence: adored, loved, resilient, proud of her family, strong, beautiful, a Facebook guru, family-first, bingo champion, full of big hugs, with the best stories, tenacious, stubborn, and inspiring, to name just a few.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and doctors at the Kerrobert Health Care Centre for their compassionate care.
Evelyn, Gram, Nanna will be deeply missed by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kerrobert & District Health Care Centre – Long Term Care Activities and The Heart and Stroke Foundation (see details below).

A Memorial Service for Evelyn will be held on Monday, Dec. 9th, at 3:00 p.m. from the Dodsland United Church. Shauna Meek and Cory Doll will be officiating.
