Christmas Traditions with Kev and The Rev

In the latest episode of The Kev and The Rev. Show, Kevin kicked things off with a curious question:

“Is Christmas different here in Canada than it was back home, Piotr?”

The answer? OHHH YES.

The Rev shared some insights into Christmas traditions from his home country of Poland. One of the biggest highlights? Food. Especially on Christmas Eve supper, where an impressive twelve meatless dishes are served.

“They’re to die for,” he grinned, explaining how different parts of Poland have their own variations of traditional dishes.

Kevin couldn’t resist asking what some of those dishes might be.

One classic? Fried fish. But here’s the twist: The Rev shared a quirky tradition where, leading up to Christmas Eve, families would sometimes buy a few live fish and keep them in the bathtub at home.

“And if there was nothing on telly, children could sit in the bathroom and watch the fish swim around,” he laughed. Definitely a unique way to keep the kids entertained!

Christmas gift-giving traditions in Poland are also a little different.

The Rev explained that on December 6th, Santa arrives with gifts. Then, on Christmas itself, a little angel delivers presents. Other times, on a later date there is a visit from Grandpa Frost, who brings his own gifts.

One of The Rev’s fondest Christmas memories comes from when he was about ten years old. That year, his father returned home from France with a very special gift: a mandarin orange, still fresh with green leaves attached.

“I’ll never forget it,” he said, reminiscing about the simple joys of the season.

Kevin wrapped up the conversation with a heartfelt reminder:

“No matter where you are, what traditions you have, or who you’re with, Christmas is about being together and being thankful.”
