“Nightwish. One Word.”
It’s more than just a podcast. It’s a space where two friends can let their personalities collide and share whatever’s on their minds. It’s the Kevin and The Rev. Podcast episode recap!
What better topic to chat about than music? Kevin’s taste comes from the 60s and 70s—back when he says music was meant to make you feel good and have fun. But these days, he’s not so sure. Enter Piotr, the metal enthusiast. Piotr talks about his transformation into a “metalhead” at age 13, thanks to legendary bands like Iron Maiden and Saxon. As the conversation heats up, it’s clear that Piotr has a deep love for metal that Kevin can’t quite wrap his head around.
Kevin, who dabbles in opera and even country, admits, “I’m just not a metal fan… of the heavy metal.” Piotr, however, isn’t having it. He argues that metal fans are some of the most loyal, dedicated people out there. Who knew heavy metal was the secret to solid relationships?
The Rev. then shares some fascinating facts about the heavy metal community. According to research, metal fans are incredibly loyal—loyal enough to be the most dedicated partners in relationships. A Canadian sociologis explored this in his documentary Heavy Metal: The Headbanger’s Journey, plus a part two. Piotr goes on to explain that, back in the days of the Iron Curtain, heavy metal was a symbol of freedom and self-expression, even in places where it was banned.
But the discussion doesn’t stop there. Piotr gets all philosophical about the diversity of metal music, from opera metal to power metal. Kevin, gets a little lost but is totally game for exploring new things. “I have to get out more.” Piotr, ever the helpful co-host, suggests a simple solution: “Open YouTube and ask me for suggestions.”
Ever heard of Nightwish? No? Well, Piotr’s here to change that. He urges listeners to check them out on YouTube. “Nightwish. One word. Like the thing that comes after the day. Try it.”
