Obituaries: W. Keith Shantz
1937 ~ 2025 (age 87)
May 11, 1937 – February 4, 2025
Keith passed away Monday, February 4, 2025 after a brief illness. He was predeceased by his wife Martha, to whom he was married for 64 years. He was also predeceased by his parents, P. Wesley and Loretta Shantz; and his brother Carl. Keith is survived by siblings Ellen, Patricia, Wilma, Gilbert and Gordon (Elaine). He is deeply missed by children Susan (Gerald) Antosh, Rodney (Sharon) Shantz, Ruthanne (Patrick) Reimche and Carolyn (Kevin) Noble. He was also a cherished grandfather of ten and great-grandfather of seven.
Keith was born in Guersney, SK, and remained on the farm until he struck out on his own. He worked for a farmer near Acadia Valley and then eventually settled in Kindersley, SK. It is there he met his wife, Martha, and, with the exception of a brief time in Assiniboia, SK, they would remain in Kindersley for 46 years. It was there that they raised their family. Keith worked for many years with Tisdale’s Sales and Service, first as a mechanic apprentice and later as a parts salesman. He also worked at the Kindersley Community Funeral Home for 25 years before retirement. Keith was very active within the Kindersley community. He served with the Kindersley Fire Department for over 30 years and was active in his local church. He enjoyed many hobbies including driving in the demolition derby, hunting, fishing, gardening and playing cards. He rarely missed an opportunity to play cards with the grandkids and didn’t always like it when the “student surpassed the teacher”.
In 2006, Keith and Martha moved to Bethune, SK to be closer to family. They took their love of gardening with them and continued to grow a large garden every year. Keith was an active member of the 50+ club and rarely missed a chance to play cards.
