Moose Jaw’s Historic Trolley Rides Again with New Tours
In the early 1900s, the streets of Moose Jaw buzzed with the hum of electric streetcars, their tracks connected the city’s growing neighborhoods and bustling downtown.
The Moose Jaw Electric Railway was conceived in 1909 by James T. Cashman and in March of 1910 a 20 year franchise was granted to: J. B. McRae, consulting engineer; Peter B. Melon, physician; E. J. Daly, barrister; A. H. Dion, electrical engineer; and C. E. McCuaig, broker of the City of Moose Jaw.
On August 19, 1911 the first run of a Moose Jaw streetcar was taken for a five-cent fare. The company developed Kingsway Park to help increase Sunday revenue.
These streetcars quickly became part of daily life, however, in 1932 the use of streetcars came to an end as George T. Connor, the last general manager of the electric railway began the operation of motor buses in the city under a new franchise named the Moose Jaw Transportation Company.
But history has a way of coming back to life. Thanks to the Moose Jaw Trolley Company, locals and visitors can step aboard a vintage-style trolley and experience the city as it once was because this year an exciting new lineup of tours will bring Moose Jaw’s past back to life!
Starting in May, four brand-new rewritten trolley experiences will roll through the city:
-Daytime Trolley Tour – Jump aboard the trolley for an exciting look into the Notorious City! 2025 unveils a brand-new tour which will share the history of Moose Jaw’s parks and downtown area. You will learn about famous people from Moose Jaw, Mac the Moose, the Canadian Forces Snowbirds and so much more!
Trolley Ghost Tour – Do you enjoy the spookier side of things? Tourism Moose Jaw is unveiling a brand-new ghost tour this year! Take an hour-long ride on the trolley and experience some of Moose Jaw’s supernatural and chilling tales! You will hear about (and maybe see) some of the city’s restless spirits and paranormal haunts! This is their most popular tour!
Trolley True Crime Tour – On the True Crime Tour, the darkest side of Moose Jaw’s history is shared. This tour tells the true stories of Moose Jaw’s most notorious residents. From settlers and thieves, to doctors and lawyers, these stories will make you sleep with one eye open.
Mini Trolley Tour – Short on time? Small children who may not sit for an hour-long tour? This tour is new to the line-up this year. It is a 30-minute condensed version of the historic daytime tour highlighting some of Moose Jaw’s most interesting facts and sights. This is a perfect tour for those who may not have a lot of time to spare!
