The Kevin & Rev Show: Dive Into the Charm of Malls, Submarines, and People Watching
In the latest episode of the Kev and the Rev podcast, hosts Kev and Piotr, affectionately known as “The Kev” and “The Rev,” took listeners on a nostalgic journey through the evolution of shopping malls—how they’ve transformed into hubs of social interaction and, in some cases, even become mini-cities.
“I love shopping malls,” Piotr shared, reminiscing about his favorite mall feature: the cozy cafeterias with gardens where people could sip coffee and watch the world go by. Kev, related to the sentiment, sharing his recent experiences of observing the diverse personalities in the bustling streets of Las Vegas during his trip between Christmas and New Year’s.
The conversation soon turned personal, as Piotr shared his first experience in a mall—at the Midtown Plaza in Saskatoon back in October 1993. His awe at the grandiosity of it all was almost cinematic, describing how his jaw hit the floor. This led to a nostalgic recounting of West Edmonton Mall, where Piotr fondly remembered riding on the iconic submarine attraction, a piece of mall history now gone but never forgotten.
Noting how malls have evolved over the years, the pair marveled at how some shopping centers are incorporating multi-purpose spaces, from fitness walking clubs to office buildings. “Malls are slowly becoming more of a mini city,” Piotr mused, highlighting the blend of commerce, leisure, and even professional spaces. Kev added, “How many malls now have hotels attached? That’s the place to be.”
The episode wrapped with Piotr humorously declaring his plans to hit the mall once again, leaving listeners with a smile. “Well, I’m going to the mall,” he joked, as the duo signed off, promising more entertaining discussions in future episodes.
