Celebrating Deputy Fire Chief Mitchel Hope’s Outstanding Achievements
Kindersley Fire, the Town of Kindersley, and the RM of Kindersley 290 proudly recognize Deputy Fire Chief Mitchel Hope for his remarkable contributions as Public Education Officer.
A second-generation firefighter, Hope joined the service in 2003 at just 16, training under the junior fire program. His passion for public education quickly became evident as he volunteered at every opportunity. After graduating high school, he pursued international fire certifications, earning his Level 2 Professional Firefighter (IFSTA NFPA 1001), Hazmat Operations, Fire Instructor Level 1, and multiple specialized rescue certifications. Today, he continues to expand his knowledge, working toward an IFSTA Fire and Life Safety Educator accreditation.
Beyond the fire service, Hope is a dedicated community leader. A single father of two, he has coached his daughters’ sports teams, served as a minor sports coordinator, and even acted as U9 softball league president for two years.
Mitch is also committed to public safety education. He has collaborated with agencies to raise awareness about impaired driving. In 2007, he brought State Trooper Michael Buckingham to speak at schools across West Central Saskatchewan, a project that involved partnerships with RCMP and multiple fire departments. Deputy Chief Hope continues to bring new ideas to Kindersley’s Public Education Program, which has made it one of the top programs in Saskatchewan, if not Western Canada, according to Fire Chief Jeff Soveran.
Hope’s visionary leadership has transformed Kindersley’s Public Education Program into one of the most respected in Saskatchewan. He spearheaded projects such as the fire education trailer, a firefighter training tower, and a simulation training maze, essential tools that now support firefighter training across the province. His efforts have ensured these initiatives will remain sustainable for at least the next decade, with structured access for other communities and fire departments. He has also started his own personal venture with firefighters from neighboring communities and his partner, Robyn. They work with schools and fire departments to raise money to assist in public education and equipment purchases. Additionally, Mitch and company promote public and firefighter safety by speaking at conventions, conferences, and schools.
His work has gained provincial and national recognition, earning him prestigious honors such as the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal, the Emergency Management Exemplary Service Award, and the King Charles III Coronation Medal. These awards celebrate his unwavering dedication to fire safety and public education.
With 19+ years of service, Deputy Chief Hope has left an undeniable mark on Kindersley and across the country. His leadership, innovation, and dedication continue to shape the future of fire safety education. Congratulations, Mitch, on these well-earned achievements!
