Klippers vs. Battlefords North Stars

Well, what can I say?  This was certainly NOT the way the Kindersley Jr. Klippers wanted to end their regular season game against the visiting Battleford North Stars on Saturday evening at the WCEC.  The visitors had a strong motivation to win as they would wind up in first place in our division.  The Klippers also had a strong motivation to win because if they lost and Laronge won that night, then we would not be in the play-offs.  Turns out we lost and Laronge also lost , so, we are in and will be facing the reigning champions, the Melfort Mustangs in the first round of the play-offs.

This game could not have gone more worse. Battleford scored in the first period and it stayed a 1 – 0 game until the third when the dam broke.  The North Stars scored 4 times on netminder Brett O’Halloran and that as they say, was that.  Cody Jaman came in to take his place after the fifth goal and soon after Battleford scored on him also!  Final score was 6 to 0.  The Klips were up against a very strong skating team and it seemed like our passes were just a bit off or deflected and many of our shots didn’t get to their goalie, who obviously was in top form and didn’t allow any Klippers to score. Over 1,000 fans came out and the building was full.

These games against their division rivals are always heated contests. Tempers tend to flare and emotions can get out of hand and penalties can take their toll on a team. You never want to hurt your team but that can happen if your in the penalty box.  Playing the Melfort Mustangs will take discipline and hard work.  They are not a team to be taken lightly.  Coach Jardine and Tyler Traptow will have our guys prepared and ready to go.  Of that I have no doubt.  Can we beat them? Yes.  Will we beat them?  That’s why we play the game!
