Dance competitions, music festivals and hockey playoffs are in full swing, and I am in awe of all the hard work the kids, parents, coaches and teachers have put into these concluding moments of stage performances and final rounds. It truly is one of the most vibrant times of the year.
As a parent of kids who aren’t quite into activities yet, I’ve had the privilege to take in various hockey tournaments along with local competitions, Leader Dance Fusion, Kindersley Konnection and the Kindersley Musical Festival. Fortunately for me, I’ve been able to cheer on nieces and nephews seeing them shine alongside their peers. After months of the grueling, slow burn of practicing pieces, routines, and drills, kids finally get to showcase their polished skills and strengths that have blossomed throughout the season. Beyond that, it is phenomenal to experience first-hand the artistry of choreography, rhythm, music and dance theory and creativity of athletic plays passed down from the adults who have stepped up to guide eager kids. There’s always standout choreography or plays that I am glad I showed up to watch, making my heart sing, sending me out of my seat in appreciation and pride. Bravo to it all.
I can’t thank the committed teachers, coaches and parents that have shown up since the Fall for kids week after week, even when it gets tough, cause I know it gets tough – especially near the end of the season. Your dedication is immensely appreciated by spectators like me. It has given my boys and I something to cheer about on numerous occasions and that is a simple reminder of the in-person joys beyond the one-way entertainment of our phone and tv screens.
