I Ran So You Could Fly (the Paris O’Ree Story) (Paint & Pen Media Group, August, 2024) is a heartwarming, inspirational historical fiction novel following the life of Black Loyalist Paris O’Ree. He is the author’s 6th great-grandfather, a slave on a South Carolina rice plantation who ran away at age 15 and joined the British Army during the American Revolution. From there, he gained freedom and passage to Canada.
Misty Johnson Parker (pen name Misty Rae) is an award-winning mixed-race writer who was born and raised in Oromocto, New Brunswick. She left her career as a lawyer to follow her passion for writing and currently lives in Morse.
A tribute to one of her canine companions appears in Chicken Soup for the Soul: What I Learned from My Dog. Her next book, Rudy, Stories About a Man, based on anecdotes her father told her about his life, is to be released in September, 2025.
