Cenovus Energy Inc. has shut down production at its Christina Lake oilsands site in northern Alberta, citing the ongoing threat from wildfires in the region. Only essential personnel remain on-site.
The company began the shutdown process on May 29 and says early inspections have revealed no damage to its infrastructure. Cenovus expects a full restart once conditions are deemed safe.
Approximately 238,000 barrels per day of production have been affected. The company plans to provide further updates when it is ready to resume operations.
Wildfires, driven by hot and dry conditions, continue to impact thousands of residents across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.
