New Intercity Bus Service Launching in Saskatchewan

A new transportation option is rolling into Saskatchewan just in time for summer travel.

FlixBus, a global intercity bus company, will launch daily service on July 1, connecting Calgary, Edmonton, North Battleford, Saskatoon, and Regina. The move offers passengers another affordable way to travel between Saskatchewan and Alberta.

Pickup points include Kahkewistahaw Gas & Convenience in Saskatoon and Victoria Square Shopping Centre in Regina.

FlixBus entered the Canadian market in 2022 and has since expanded across Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, and Alberta. The company, founded in 2013 in Munich, Germany, now operates in over 40 countries across four continents and brands itself as a travel-tech company.

Bus access in Saskatchewan has been limited since the province shut down the Saskatchewan Transportation Company (STC) in 2017. Greyhound followed by exiting Western Canada in 2018 and ended its remaining Canadian operations in 2021.

FlixBus will be running its new prairie route in direct competition with Calgary-based Rider Express, which has been serving the area for the past eight years.

The Government of Saskatchewan says it welcomes additional bus service in the province. It currently has no intentions of regulating bus routes.
