Wheatland Short Story Writing Challenge

Are you a writer with a story to tell? The Wheatland Regional Library is holding a Short Story Writing Challenge for adults! Share your own short story to have your work read by published authors and for a chance to win a prize. Submissions are open now and the deadline to submit is October 31, 2025. Winners will be announced on December 5. 

Entries will be read by a panel of local authors and will be judged on the following elements: plot and character development, style, originality, structure and mechanics (spelling, grammar, etc.). 

Finalists will receive one of three prizes:

1st place: Kobo Clara eReader
2nd place: $75 McNally Robinson Gift Card
3rd place: $50 McNally Robinson Gift Card

Submission guidelines:

  • Must be ages 18 and up
  • Limit 1 short story per person
  • Work must be an original and titled
  • Up to 2000 words
  • Entries must be typed and double-spaced

How to submit:

Submissions can be sent by email to programmanager@wheatland.sk.ca (attached as a Word .doc, Google Doc, or PDF) or in person at any Wheatland Regional Library branch. Include your name, phone number, email address, and library branch.
