Obituaries: Ruth Magdelen (Diemert) Kon

1931 ~ 2025 (age 94)

With great sadness, Ruth Kon, our mother passed away on Thursday, July 24th, 2025, only 3 days after celebrating her 94th birthday.

Mom was born on July 21, 1931, in a small farmhouse in Benton, Alberta to Alex and Annie Diemert. After a few years, the Diemert family moved to Oyen, and then to Drumheller, Alberta where she attended her last few years of school before moving to Calgary. She worked for the City of Calgary until she married the love of her life, Fred Kon November 27th, 1954, in Calgary. After their wedding, mom was whisked away to enjoy many years of farm life in Darcy and Fiske, Saskatchewan. Together they had three children: Murray, Barry, and Pamela. Sadly, our father Fred passed away December 23, 2013, followed by her beloved son Murray May 9, 2016.

Mom loved anything sports, she spent many years cheering on her husband and sons’ baseball team “The Fiske Flyers.” She also loved playing cards, bingo, dancing, and much more. She will be missed by many friends and family with whom she enjoyed spending time.

Mom had been predeceased in life by her beloved husband Fred of 59 years, her parents Alex and Annie Diemert, her son Murray, her sisters Theresa Diemert, Margaret Kanuka, Shirley Keeley and Nora Oel, as well as her brothers-in-law Tom Fendall, Dave Colwell, Joe Oel, Bo Kanuka and daughter-in-law Kay-Del Godbout. She will be forever loved and remembered by her children; Barry (Sandi) Kon, Pamela (Jody) Veer and her cherished grandchildren; Michelle (Jon), Laura, Brady, Evan (Ashley), Brooklyn, Maygen (Rene), and great-grandmother to Wyatt, Dawson, Kinsley, Sophie, and Avaeah. Mom is also survived by her sisters; Donna Colwell, Geraldine (Bo) Olsson, and Sheila (David) Cronkhite, her brother Joe (Carol) Diemert, and brother-in-law Dan Keeley.

The family would especially like to express their gratitude to everyone who helped mom get to her doctor appointments as well as helping her with her everyday needs when they could not get there themselves; it did not go unnoticed, and they will be forever grateful. Also, they would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at the Kindersley Hospital and Heritage Manor for their care and professionalism, mom passed away peacefully under their care.
