Banff (But Actually Canmore) Part Two!

Psst. Ever been to Canmore, AB? It’s only a stones throw from the Banff National Park gates and let me tell you, it is a gorgeous place to visit and tour around.

Melissa and I went on a hike around Quarry Lake, (named for an old coal mine nearby) and it was awe inspiring seeing all the different peaks and the other hikers taking in some walking exercise. This lake isn’t that huge but the water is a blue/green colour and very inviting. We made several stops on our hike to watch the fish that were close to the shore. Some people were swimming, some fishing or paddle boarding. It is a popular place for families and there is an off leash dog park that was used heavily.

As well, we walked around the downtown as some of the streets were closed to vehicle traffic. It was nice to stroll the streets and take in the different shops and businesses without having to worry about traffic! We stopped at Beamers Coffee Bar for a coffee and split a “healthy” blueberry muffin. I tried the coffee from Costa Rica while Melissa had café mocha. Both were amazing. This coffee bar has been around for 30 years with no signs of slowing down. Lots of different stores to visit as well as plenty of other distractions with many families pushing strollers and rollerblading. There was even a fellow playing a fiddle for entertainment! The scenery is amazing and well worth the time to stop. Some unbelievable architecture to see. Beautiful and I am sure, expensive.

The only thing that we didn’t expect was that the visitors centre was closed for renovations so all we could get was some brochures. Plenty of hiking trails and if you like to golf, you can do that too. Canmore, to me, feels underrated. Maybe because of it’s proximity to Banff? Either way, Canmore is another gem in the Canadian Rockies.
