Biggar Fire Recognizes Members
On June 28, the Biggar Fire Department held its annual BBQ and Golf Day, giving members a chance to get together socially and extend thanks to their significant others for their ongoing support.
This year, two notable retirements were recognized. Alicia Besse retired after 18 years of service, including her time as a junior firefighter. She played a key role in communications, the P.A.R.T.Y. program, and Fire Prevention Week, and was always willing to jump in when needed. As a young woman on the department, Alicia helped spark interest among other women and encouraged them to take on the challenge. While a difficult decision, it was ultimately the right one for her.
The second retirement was Captain Cliff Forsyth, concluding an outstanding 35-year career. Cliff was active in all aspects of the department, becoming a pump operator extraordinaire in later years. Known for his mentorship, Cliff readily shared his knowledge and was a trusted sounding board for Chief Dorosh and others. He never hesitated to offer advice—often with a well-timed, “You might want to think twice before you do that.” His presence will be deeply missed.
With retirements come new leadership. After thoughtful consideration, the department promoted Marv Evans, who officially moved his gear into a new locker. His commitment to learning and his strong team mindset will serve him well in the role. Congratulations, Captain Evans.
