Man Facing Child Porn Charge in Sask. Now Faces Charges in Alta.

On the day when 19-year-old Bransyn Lyon was scheduled to appear in Regina Provincial Court for a charge related to possession of child pornography, he found himself facing similar charges in Alberta.

On December 5th, the Alberta Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit apprehended Lyon at his residence in Cochrane, Alberta, where he was charged with distributing, accessing, and possessing child pornography. Additionally, he faced three counts of failing to comply with a release order issued in Saskatchewan. Lyon was originally slated to appear in a Regina court that same day on a charge of possessing child pornography.

“ICE is concerned that the suspect continues to reoffend and has demonstrated little regard for his release conditions,” said Const. Erin Penner, Alberta ICE South in a media release Friday.

“Child exploitation offences remain on the rise in this province and our unit will remain diligent in targeting those that contribute to this unfortunate trend.”

Lyon had previously been arrested on July 10th by the Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit, which had initiated its investigation into Lyon back in February. At the time of his arrest in Alberta, Lyon was under strict conditions, including prohibitions on possessing electronic devices, unsupervised internet access, and accessing any form of pornography, as outlined by the Alberta ICE Unit.

Authorities seized numerous computers and electronic devices from Lyon’s Cochrane residence during his Alberta arrest. A comprehensive forensic analysis and evidence recovery process is currently underway, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The Alberta ICE Unit began its investigation into Lyon in October, prompted by information provided by the RCMP’s National Child Exploitation Crime Center. This information indicated that a suspect based in Alberta had been repeatedly sharing child sexual abuse materials on Snapchat.

Anyone with information related to these cases or any instances of child exploitation is urged to contact their local law enforcement agency or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

The Alberta ICE Unit operates under the jurisdiction of Alberta ALERT, a collective of the province’s most sophisticated law enforcement resources dedicated to combating serious and organized crime.

The Saskatchewan ICE Unit comprises investigators from the Saskatchewan RCMP, Regina Police Service, Saskatoon Police Service, and Prince Albert Police Service. Their mission is to investigate crimes involving the abuse and exploitation of children on the internet.
