Campgrounds Loosen Restrictions in Time for the Weekend

By Mallorie Rast

With the sunny days and warmer nights, camping and the beach are on everyone’s mind. This weekend, Saskatchewan Provincial Parks are opening to the maximum allowed for the 2020 camping season.

“After slowly and carefully opening the parks in May and campgrounds in June, we are excited to offer more campsite availability,” Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Gene Makowsky said in a recent government press release.

Campsites that were previously closed to the public, such as group, double and equestrian sites, are now available for booking. Campers are able to spend the night at their chosen location and are no longer limited to how long they can stay at the site. Camp-Easy sites will open on July 16th, and campers will be able to book a spot online as early as July 9th. Public showers are once again open for use, but public laundry facilities and cookhouses are still closed until further notice. Beaches and playgrounds are open, and the public is asked to observe social distancing and proper handwashing while enjoying these outdoor activities. Hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes will not be provided, thus campers are urged to bring their own.

Patrons are also encouraged to reduce in-park contact by purchasing an Annual Park Entry Permit for the 2020 season, and/or to book online. The automatic check-in process implemented earlier this month will allow both permit holders and pre-booked site holders to drive directly to their campsite upon arrival.
