KFD Shares Info on Fire Bans

Hello, Cody Phinney back for another update from the Kindersley Fire Brigade.

The last weekend of April saw our annual Firefighters Ball hosted by the KFD Social Club. The Ball gives us a chance to distribute awards and recognize important milestones in our membership’s careers. This year Ret. Capt. Burke was recognized for his 40 years served on the department before his retirement in 2018. F.F. Bleile was recognized for his 25 years and counting service to the department. Capt. Wake and Lt. Ismond both were recognized for reaching their 10 years of service to the department milestones. Thank you to Kindersley Packers for their donation of a meat package as a raffle item, to the Oil Wives Association for volunteering their time, and to Simply Satisfied Catering for the delicious meal! With the warm weather here to stay our members will be back out at our training grounds on the southwest side of town. Members have been out there recently to tidy it up and organize the area. We plan on utilizing the area extensively throughout the month of May to prepare some of our membership for their 1001 Professional certifications. If you see activity out there don’t worry, it’s just us training!

Many R.M.s across West Central Saskatchewan have declared fire bans in their areas. Fire bans are implemented when conditions become dry enough that if a fire were to break out, it could quickly become unmanageable and spread fast. Grass fires can move fast and cover a large area, and if not quickly managed can be devastating to crops and local wildlife and residents. Information regarding your R.M.s fire ban status and rules can usually be found on their website, or by speaking to a representative directly.
