Beach to be Constructed at Motherwell Reservoir

Get your sand buckets ready because plans have been announced that a beach is to be constructed at the Motherwell Reservoir in town!

The outdoor recreational upgrade will provide a fantastic area for everyone to use, and visitors to the area can enjoy picnics, suntanning, beach activities and non-powered water sports such as paddle boating and boarding, kayaking and canoeing.

Permits for upgrades to the area have already been received from the Water Security Agency (WSA) Aquatic Habitat Protection and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans.

Earthworks will start soon as fish spawning and bird migration needs to be taken into consideration.

*The Water Security Agency manages the province’s water supply, protect water quality, ensure safe drinking water and treatment of wastewater, own and manage 72 dams and related water supply channels, reduce flood and drought damage, protect aquatic habitat and provide information about water. The Water Security Agency also represents Saskatchewan on transboundary water issues.

*The Aquatic Habitat Protection Program protects aquatic habitat from impacts that may arise from development in, or near, water. The program preserves and maintains aquatic habitat at the productive level which existed prior to the development activities by preventing: temporary and permanent habitat alteration, increased soil erosion and sedimentation, impacts of construction timing and development on aquatic organisms and Species at Risk, discharge of chemicals, oil, gasoline and other contaminants into water. The program also protects vegetation and habitat in the water and banks.

*Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) helps to ensure healthy and sustainable aquatic ecosystems through habitat protection and sound science. We support economic growth in the marine and fisheries sectors, and innovation in areas such as aquaculture and biotechnology.
