Obituaries: Norman A. Scheidt

April 7, 1927 ~ March 29, 2020 (age 92)

In loving memory of Norman Scheidt who passed away on Sunday, March 29th, 2020 at the age of 92 years.

Norman was the beloved husband of Dena Marie, and father of Norma (Dan) Ripper, Doreen (Gary) Scheidt, Donna (Loran) Forer, & Judy (Gord) Classen.

There will be a private service for Norman at this time, and there may be a public service at a later date.

Norman passed away peacefully on March 29, 2020 at the age of 92 at the Stonebridge Crossing Retirement Home in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Norman was born on April 7, 1927 in Kerrobert to August and Emma Scheidt. He lived most of his life on the family farm near Hearts Hill, where he began farming with his dad at the young age of 12. He loved farming and continued to pursue this passion for most of his life.

In 1950, Norman married his soul mate Dena Heidt and together they settled down to run their mixed farm operation and raise their four daughters. Norman kept busy caring for his range cattle, milk cows, pigs, and chickens and spent hours in the field sowing and harvesting grain. Family time was important, and he adored his girls. He would spend hours traveling to watch their sporting events and proudly cheer them on. Norman also dearly loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren and it would just make his day when any one of them came to visit.

When Norman wasn’t working hard on the farm, he could be found socializing in town or at a local sporting event. Norman could hold a conversation with anyone he met. Norman was very involved in his community, serving on the Luseland Lutheran Church Board and the Co-op Board for many years.

Norman also loved music. In his youth, he played the saxophone in a band and spent evenings dancing at the local hall. He had a beautiful singing voice and could be heard singing hymns on Sundays in church.

In their later years, Norman and Dena moved from the farm into Luseland and in April 1991, sold their equipment and officially retired. In retirement, Norman and Dena joined the North Battleford chapter of the Good Sam Club, travelling throughout the United States and Canada with their fifth wheel in tow. In 2005 they downsized further by moving into a condo in Unity and then to LutherCare in Stonebridge in Saskatoon in 2017.

Norman was predeceased by his wife Dena, parents August and Emma, brothers Raymond and Ken, and his grandson Cordell. Norman will be fondly remembered by his surviving daughters Norma Jean (Dan), Doreen (Gary), Donna (Loran), and Judy (Gord), Brother Elmer (Rita), and sister Sylvia (Bob). He leaves behind 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.

A private burial service will be held April 3, 2020 in Luseland, Saskatchewan. Given the current pandemic situation, the family requests your understanding in their decision to restrict the numbers in attendance to immediate family.

A memorial service will be held at a future date for all to gather and celebrate Norman’s life.

Memorial donations in memory of Norman can be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation or Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan. Arrangements are being made in care of the Kindersley Community Funeral Home (www.kindersleyfuneralhome.com).
