Walton “Wally” Knight

On Sunday, February 16, 2020 in Eston, Saskatchewan we lost a unique man – Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Uncle and friend. Wally was one-of-a-kind.

Wally is sadly missed by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy; his children Cheryl Knight, Rodney (Eugenie) Knight, Gail Edwards and Barbara (David) Gurski; grandchildren and great-grandchildren Derrick (Kelly) Knight – Emerson, William, Maggie; Shawn (Tobi) Knight – Logan (Mari), daughter Isla, Lyndon, AJ, Lucas; Bradley (Kera) Knight – Ella, Dax; Mark (Katelyne) Edwards – Isaac, Mavis, Lilly; Aidan and Addison Gurski; in-laws Elizabeth Kullman and Richard Dale and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Elmer (Patricia) Knight and his sister Esther (Ron) Jones.

Wally was born August 12, 1930 in Eston, SK to Victor and Bertha Knight. He attended school at Newburg and began farming with his father on the family homestead. Wally married, raised his family and lived there for the remainder of his life. The farmyard became the center of activity and continues to be the foundation of Knight Farms, where the legacy continues. Farming with Rodney, Derrick, Shawn and Bradley was a source of pride and fulfillment for Wally. He drove the combine with the boys until he was 82 years old and then continued to help out for as long as he was able. Up until his last days, Wally asked about the farm, his vehicles and what the boys were doing.

In every aspect of his life, his motto was, “If it’s worth doing, do it right!” He was meticulous in the care of his vehicles and his machinery and had high expectations of his family. Wally loved a sharp wit and a good joke.

Wally believed in supporting local business and community projects. He was a life-time member of the Eston Lions Club and served on the board of the Eston Credit Union.

A memorial service was held at St. Andrew’s United Church on Thursday, February 20, 2020 in Eston, officiated by Rev. Barb McNaughton. Memorial donations can be made to the Eston Lions Club. Arrangements entrusted to Kindersley Community Funeral Home.
