Dundurn Aims to Break World Record

On a bustling day filled with excitement, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) issued a traffic advisory for Highway 11 in Dundurn, Saskatchewan. The reason? The locals were hosting an extraordinary celebration featuring prehistoric guests roaming the streets.

Determined to create a unique Canada Day experience, Dundurn set its sights on breaking the current world record of 380 inflatable dinosaurs. With an astonishing turnout of 1,163 people dressed in inflatable dinosaur costumes, the town and its visitors rejoiced in what could potentially be a new record.

The local establishment, Big Mur’s Tavern, played a pivotal role in organizing and sponsoring the event. The tavern’s owner, Gary Grady, conceived the idea of surpassing the previous record after watching a video of Portland, Oregon’s celebration, where 380 inflatable T-Rex costumes had been amassed in June 2022. Grady initiated the planning process in November, promoting the event through social media and conversations with people.

Dundurn’s attempt to break the world record attracted participants from far and wide. Traveling from places like Arizona, Vancouver Island, Edmonton, and Winnipeg, individuals joined forces with locals and neighboring towns to support this audacious endeavor. Grady acknowledged the efforts put into organizing the event, stating, “It wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be. We invested a lot of time and effort into promotion.” Once all the necessary documentation is compiled, it will be submitted to the Guinness World Records for verification.

During the day, festivities in Dundurn were geared toward families, offering a range of attractions such as bouncy castles, food trucks, and live music. Given the tremendous number of attendees, the Saskatoon RCMP advised motorists to anticipate delays on Highway #11 in Dundurn from 1-9 p.m. during this community event.
