Bundle up, a Polar Vortex Is Moving In
The mercury is about to drop as a polar vortex moves in.
As this system moves in, areas in northern Saskatchewan will start feeling its effects on Thursday while the extreme cold will touch the west central areas by the weekend, with overnight temperatures potentially dipping to –37/39C.
The temperatures may begin to rise again by the middle to end of next week. “The cold air will be around for the better part of next week, with some gradual improvement by later in the week,” says Environment and Climate Change Canada meteorologist Terri Lang.
Seasonal highs for this time of year in central and southern Saskatchewan is typically around –9 C.
Remember, extreme cold puts everyone at risk, if you are heading outside be sure to cover up because frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin.
