On December 8, 2021, North Battleford Municipal General Investigation Section laid charges after a lengthy investigation into the possession of child pornography.

The investigation progressed with the assistance of Saskatchewan Digital Forensic Services as well as the Saskatchewan Integrated Child Exploitation Unit. A search warrant was completed at a residence in North Battleford and 49 year old Jason Schmidt of North Battleford was arrested and charged with one count of possession of child pornography contrary to section 163.1 of the Criminal Code, and one count of making sexually explicit material available to a child contrary to section 171.1 of the Criminal Code.
