Awards show celebrates independent film in Sask.

7 short films get nod at Saskatchewan Independent Film Awards

Indie film is getting some love in Regina tonight at the Saskatchewan Independent Film Awards.

The awards show is celebrating excellence in the province’s independent film scene for the second year in a row.

Gordon Pepper, Executive Director with the Saskatchewan Filmpool Cooperative, said although the local film scene isn’t as well-known as Vancouver or Toronto’s, there’s a lot to celebrate here at home.

“There’s a number of really talented filmmakers throughout the province that are making films more or less produced on their own,” Pepper said.

He said part of the excitement in the industry is over the various types of films getting made locally, including documentaries, dramas and animated films.

“These films really represent the diversity of creativity that’s throughout the province.”
