RCMP said the scary crash happened Tuesday on a part of the lake north of a subdivision known as Collingwood Estates. Last Mountain Lake is about 50 kilometres northwest of Regina.

According to RCMP, two men had driven onto the lake to go ice fishing. They were on their way back when their truck broke through the ice. They hurried to get out of the truck and the driver suffered a shoulder injury in the scramble to safety.

RCMP said the driver was taken to hospital, treated and released.

They noted the pickup is now embedded in ice, about 90 metres from shore, with only the topper covering the truck’s cargo box visible.

RCMP reminded people using the lake to be cautious.

“Experienced, amateur or casual outdoors people should use common sense when they are on frozen water,” RCMP said in a media release Wednesday. They noted that some people had already begun setting up ice fishing shacks on the lake.

“You do this at your own risk,” RCMP said.
