Danny and Cindy Kosolofski run a successful family business in Kindersley, find out what it means to them…

Dan and Cindy Kosolofski are owners at Dancin Oil Services Ltd. Since 1998, their company has been providing a wide variety of oilfield services to the Kindersley area.

At Dancin, the Kosolofskis believe that the company’s diversity and ability to perform a range of jobs is what sets them apart. The company’s main priorities are to provide excellence in job quality and service, maintaining a safe working environment, and running a company where “everybody feels at home.”

Dan has a passion for welding that traces back to his high school days, and a background in the production side of the oil industry. Cindy has a certificate in office administration, and has experience in secretary work and accounting. The Kosolofskis founded Dancin Oilfield Services when the oil company that employed Dan at the time sold. Instead of taking the new job offered him, Dan and Cindy set out to start their own company. The company’s name, Dancin, was coined by Dan’s niece, Kelly Grey. It is derived from Dan and Cindy’s names.

The Kosolofskis have always strived to keep their business local. This choice has brought both its challenges and its rewards. “When you’re working locally, everything you do reflects your company,” says Dan. “It’s critical that you do a good job,” he adds. However, Dan says that being challenged to do the best job possible also makes working in Kindersley a very rewarding endeavor. “The same things that make it difficult make it a great place to work.”

Cindy says that her favorite part of running the company is “being able to work with Dan every day.” In addition, they both greatly enjoy forging working relationships with members of the community. “We’ve made a lot of great friendships,” says Cindy. “I’ve always thought that I’ve been a positive influence on Kindersley,” Dan says. The Kosolofskis are very grateful to the local people and companies who believed in the young company’s potential, and aided Dancin along the road to success in its early years. “Those of you who read the article know who you are,” Dan says. “I really want to take this opportunity to thank all the patronage from the Kindersley area…for allowing us to provide the best quality we could,” he added later.

Dan feels that community support is essential, especially in floating the changing economy. “The community needs to support local businesses.” Dan also believes that in return local businesses, himself included have a responsibility to the community to ensure we are delivering quality services that are as good or even better for similar prices for comparable product. He stresses the importance of companies and individuals helping each other out, and working together to handle projects that are bigger than the individual company. Through thick and thin, it’s the Kosolofskis’ goal to “provide employment for as long as possible. We want to be a long-term company, not a short-term company,” says Dan.

The Kosolofskis feel the importance of considering the best interests of their employees: “Our personnel are very important to us,” says Dan. “I think the key for our business is looking after our employees like we would want to be looked after.” He says that in the demands of the oil industry, the employees are often overlooked in the recognition process. No matter the time of day or year, the great wheel of the oilfield turns, and it often comes at the cost of the workers involved.

Dan and Cindy both say that their biggest passion is their family. Despite the challenges of simultaneously raising children and running a business related to the oil industry, and the many hours Dan had to sacrifice to run the company, they enjoy hanging out whenever possible. Dan and Cindy are each 50% owners in Dancin, and Dan believes that Cindy deserves every percent of that. “I don’t think she gets enough credit,” he says. He added that he believes many of the spouses in the Kindersley area do not receive enough acknowledgement for what they give to companies.

No matter what the future holds, the Kosolofskis hope to see Dancin Oilfield Services, Ltd growing and remaining in Kindersley. Dan says his goal is to see the company growing in the future, with his employees taking on a larger part in the company as it expands.
